Haiku For When Nothing Makes Sense
What country did we wake up in today?

Halloween’s over
The real nightmare begins now
For kids on food stamps
In America
Where one in eight citizens
Depended on SNAP
(FYI: SNAP is
food stamps, in case you
weren’t clear). But, so what?
A gilded ballroom
Means more to our President:
Kids can’t even vote
Those who’ve never known
Hard times, bad luck, injustice
Know where to place blame
Simple formula:
Some people made poor choices
And that’s why they’re poor!
Why not round them up
With other problem people,
Put ’em all in camps?
Then we can focus
On cutting social programs
Wealthy folks don’t need
There are better things
To do, like meeting quotas
For deportations
Or sending soldiers
Into rioting cities
Where there’s no riot
Or testing live nukes
Like our President wants to
‘Cuz that’ll show ‘em
Show who? It depends.
A mad king’s shifting moods are
Tricky to predict
Best to keep him calm
Remodeling the bathrooms.
(Don’t say “Epstein files”
Anywhere near him)
Which should be easy enough
If you’re in Congress
And Republican;
You’ve been away six weeks now
Still collecting pay
Not too bad a gig
Why rock the boat? Wait —
Let’s not mention boats
Better idea: move
Like Miller, Rubio, Noem
To where it’s safer.
Military base
Housing is surprisingly
Quite comfortable
Alarmed citizens
Might think it’s not a good look,
Leaders in bunkers
But unless they read
Project Two-Ought-Twenty-Five,
What do they know? Squat!
We move fast, break things
The cruelty is the point
Empathy is bunk
Still, those hungry kids.
Hope their Halloween candy
Lasts them long enough
