This is both chilling and fascinating. It's terrifying to not be believed when the monster puts on his mask to the world outside. What a tragic, twisted end.

, horrible, my mom endured some type of abuse from men, and her own mom didn’t believe her. But I’m with you on being surprised finding out someone you went to school with died a horrible death accident, I get like that if I see them on the news or internet!

Yikes, not a lot of people could write this content, powerful journalism Jan. And to think you were friends of a friend! Love how you begin with the Thanksgiving dinner, great opener with all the details. The closest I got to a tragic figure was the woman who ran the Weigh Down Workshops that featured Bible readings. They have a Netflix documentary on her. I quit the program when she showed up dressed like the Virgin Mary--creepy. Keep 'em coming--maybe I'll write about her--I think her name was Gwen.

I hope you do! I'm not aware of the Weigh Down Workshops . . . diet culture in a toxic mix with religion, perhaps?

Yep, and add in a Southern Belle with a penchant for columns in the front of her house. I’ve got to find a picture, the hair alone!

Wow, that’s intense. I know a number of Greek women named Maria, and one in particular reminded me of the one you knew. It's hard to understand the cult mentality, especially as you say, its effect on someone so intelligent, who should have known better. The effects of trauma are long-lasting.
