My husband's sister had a 'surprise ' baby',and now she's the most adorable thing ever. You are the same! Hey, they say save the best for last! And about your brother in law, sister's husband, Uncle, etc, Jan, karma doesn't miss a beat! I'm sure he had to deal with that and had regrets.
But in the end, you went to his funeral and All that bitterness dried up because you remembered the good times, forgiveness freed you.
WOW, Jan. You've had one helluva summer. I'm so sorry for your losses and am happy for your gain of a new daughter-in-law. This was beautifully written. The part where your sister and brother-in-law died so close together made me think of my aunt and uncle who also recently died within 6 months of each other. We held both memorials at the same place and the staff who work there remembered all of us because we'd just been there, it seemed.
Life is so cyclical and sad and happy, and all the things in between. I hope you can rest and recharge now. Take care of your heart.
Sharing your story with us feels as if you gently held out a piece of your soul and said, "Look at me, I'm okay no matter what age I am". Thank you for honoring us with this part of you. It's a poignant transition that, as you said, comes with joy and pain.

Donna, thank you so much for such a kind and thoughtful comment -- that truly means a lot.
I’m their wise woman now, their old lady, the only one left who remembers, however imperfectly, the family lore.
I love this! What a beautiful weaving of a story you created here. ❤️
Thank you so much, Beth -- that means a lot, coming from you!
Brought tears to my eyes. Thanks for sharing this.
Oh, that means so much to me, Sara (although I didn't intend to make you sad). Thank you!
Thanks for sharing your story Jan--as always, insightful.
Huge thanks, Trish.
